2011 Leaf Collection Program
Windsor’s 2011 Leaf Collection Program will begin on Monday, October 24th and end
on Friday, December 16th.
In Windsor, the landfill accepts resident’s leaves and uses them to produce a
nice, rich compost. Windsor Sanitation will pick up your leaves during this
period on the same day as the trash pick-up on your street, whether you are a
Windsor Sanitation customer or not.
Residents must place their leaves at the curb. Leaves must be placed in 30 to 40
gallon paper leaf bags or in plastic containers that are labeled with a “LEAVES
ONLY” sticker that can be easily identified by the driver. (ie: sticker facing
the road.) Residents can obtain these stickers at the Town Hall or the Landfill
Scale Office.
Leaves that are placed in plastic bags will not be accepted at the landfill and
will not be collected curbside by Windsor Sanitation. Bags of leaves must be
clean and not contain other items that will compromise the quality of the mulch
that will be created. (These items include grass clippings, branches, or other
items.)
Residents who wish to self-haul their leaves to the landfill can do so for free
throughout the year. Landscapers and businesses that charge residents for these
services will not be charged for leaf disposal at the landfill between October
24th and December 16th. Throughout the rest of the year, landscapers and
businesses will be charged for disposal.
The landfill accepts leaves Monday through Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM and
is located at 500 Huckleberry Road in Windsor. For more information, call
860-285-1833.
