Emergency Preparedness
The Emergency Management division (originally known as Civil Defense and later Civil Preparedness) develops, maintains and implements an up-to-date Emergency Operations Plan for the town. It also develops specific response plans for such things as clinic operations in response to pandemic disease or biological attack, sheltering, etc. It is the lead department for local bioterrorism response planning and the operations of MDA 31 (the regional response organization of the towns of Windsor and South Windsor). Staff and Emergency Management volunteers support operations of the town's first responders as they respond to natural or man-made emergencies by staffing the Emergency Operations Center and providing communications support; and, liaison with State and Federal authorities when required by the scope of an emergency situation.
