2012 Street Sweeping Schedule

Sweeping of all town streets and town parking lots is scheduled to begin the week of

March 19, 2012.  Delays may occur due to weather conditions, but sweeping will continue until the entire town is swept.

 

Sweeping will be performed in the neighborhoods listed below in the following order:

5. Mill Brook (Mack Street, East Street, Pleasant Street neighborhoods)  March 27, 2012
6. Hayden Station, Pilgrim Village, Palisado neighborhoods  April 12, 2012
7. River Street, Strawberry Hill neighborhood  April 18, 2012
8. Rainbow area  April 20, 2012
9. Walden Meadow, Prospect Hill neighborhoods   April 27, 2012
10. Poquonock, Farmstead, Village Lane neighborhood  April 30, 2012
11. Bloomfield Avenue area, Dudley Town Road, Pigeon Hill neighborhoods  
12. Matianuck Avenue area  
13. Willowcrest, Meadowbrook, Green Manor neighborhoods  
14. Wilson area  

 

Sweeping of town streets will be postponed during school vacation to clean the school parking lots before returning to sweeping the streets. 

 

Sweeping of bricks and sidewalks near the Green, the Town library, railroad station, Milo Peck Child Development Center, Windsor Avenue, the medians in Wilson, and the Windsor Center River Trial will also be done.

 

The order of the neighborhoods to be swept changes each year so that one neighborhood is not always swept first or swept last.

Locations of Sand/Salt Containers

Look for YELLOW sand containers at the following locations (for residential use only):

 

  • Sharshon Park (Skitchewaug St. off Windsor Avenue, Wilson)
  • L P Wilson Community Center (599 Matianuck Avenue)
  • Mechanic Street - Commuter Parking Lot  (behind Town Hall, next to the dog pound  across from the Parks Dept. building)
  • Oliver Ellsworth School (Kennedy Road)
  • Public Works Complex (99 Day Hill Road, off Poquonock Avenue, Exit 38 off I-91)  Plain sand is also available at this location.
  • Poquonock Fire House (1575 Poquonock Avenue)
  • Rainbow Fire House (750 Rainbow Road) 

Winter Parking Regulations

As a reminder, please do not park vehicles on the street between 1:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. between November 15 and April 15. 

 

During a snow or ice storm, no parking on the street is permitted when a storm has been in progress for one (1) hour. 

 

Vehicles are not permitted to be left on the street impeding normal snow plowing operations and the free flow of traffic during a snow storm.
