Senior Fitness Center

Our 55 and over Senior Fitness Center is the best deal in town. We offer treadmills, recumbent and stationary bikes, an elliptical machine, universal machines and free weights. Our certified fitness instructor, Dee Abrams, is welcoming, energetic and very helpful. Dee has dedicated herself to improving the health of the seniors in our community for over 20 years through our various fitness programs.

 

To sign up for membership in the Senior Fitness Center, first have your Physician's Approval Form completed and faxed or brought into the Senior Center office.  Our fitness instructor will call you to set up an Orientation when we receive your approval form.  To learn about membership fees and fitness center hours, click on the link provided.

Exercise & Wellness Programs

Water Fitness - beneficial exercises conducted in shallow water will help joint mobility, muscle strength and flexibility.  Meets at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Hilton Garden Inn's heated indoor pool. 

  

Tai Chi for Beginners - meets Mondays and Fridays at 8:45 AM.  Teaches graceful and relaxing movements that can improve your balance, strength and mobility. 

  

Sit Stretch & Groove - meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 AM.  Incorporates balance, stretching, walking and energetic exercise.  Participants can choose to exercise sitting in chairs if preferred.  A good class to start with if you haven't exercised in a while.

 

Shape Up & Work Out - meets Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8:30 AM.  Goal of this program is to improve the health of your heart & lungs and to keep your bones strong.  Weights are available for use during the class.

 

Yoga  - Breathing techniques, yoga postures and relaxation techniques will be taught to enhance quality of life, increase flexibility, circulation, energy & stamina.  Meets Thursdays at 10:00 AM.

 

Advanced Tai Chi - meets Fridays at 10:45 AM.  Students should have completed the Young-style 24 & 48 forms.  Goal is to release tension, refine movements and deepen understanding of this healing art while improving muscle tone and balance. 

 

Zumba Gold - dance based exercise program set to Latin & international rhythms.  Developed to benefit older active adults.  Meets Tuesdays at 1:30 PM.

 

Tap Dancing - Enjoy learning dance steps and routines to music.  Dancing is great exercise and lots of fun.  No partners necessary.  Meets Thursdays at 1:00 PM. Free.

 

Boomer Golf - Tee off at 8:00 AM every Wednesday at the Cooper Hill Golf Club.  An unstructured league with an attitude that having fun is a priority.  Attendance is not mandatory.  Starts in April and continues through October or until it's too cold to play.

 

Line Dancing - Keep your mind and body active while you learn simple line dancing routines.  Meet at the First Church every Friday at 1:30 PM.  Open to both men and women. Free.

 

Personal Training - Dee Abrams is a certified personal trainer who provides affordable 1 on 1 fitness training for seniors.
