Senior Fitness Center

Our 55 and over Senior Fitness Center is the best deal in town. We offer treadmills, recumbent and stationary bikes, elliptical machines, universal machines and free weights. Our certified fitness instructor, Dee Abrams, is welcoming, energetic and very helpful. Dee has dedicated herself to improving the health of the seniors in our community for over 20 years through our various fitness programs.

 

To sign up for membership in the Senior Fitness Center, first have your Physician's Approval Form completed and faxed or brought into the Senior Center office.  Our fitness instructor will call you to set up an Orientation when we receive your approval form.  To learn about membership fees and fitness center hours, click on the link provided.

 

Exercise & Wellness Programs

Beginner Tai Chi/QiGong - meets Fridays 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Ballet Room.  Goal is to release tension, refine movements and deepen understanding of this healing art while improving muscle tone and balance. 

 

Tai Chi/QiGong for Intermediates & Advanced - meets Mondays and Fridays 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM in the Ballet Room.  Teaches graceful and relaxing movements that can improve your balance, strength and mobility. Students should have completed the Young-style 24 & 48 forms. 

 

Hiking - Hike with the Happy Hikers group on various trails in Windsor and nearby towns.  Call the Senior Center for more details, 860-285-1992.  Free.

  

Line Dancing - Keep your mind and body active while you learn simple line dancing routines.  Meets Fridays in the Ballet Room 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM. Free.

 

Multi-Cultural Dance Group - Every Friday from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the Ballet Room.  All are welcome to learn various dance moves to music from all cultures.  Moves can be done while seated, if need be.  Learn simple dance routines to keep you active and learn about different cultures, as well. Free.

 

Personal Training - Dee Abrams is a certified personal trainer who provides affordable 1 on 1 fitness training for seniors in our Senior Fitness Center (see above).  Call the Senior Center for more information or to schedule an appointment with Dee, 860-285-1992.

 

Pickleball - Games are played inside in gym in cool weather, and outside on tennis courts in warm weather.  Mondays, 10:00 AM to noon; Wednesdays, 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM; Fridays, 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM.  This popular game keeps your reflexes in tip top shape and is great all-around exercise.  Instruction and all equipment provided.  Free.

 

Posture, Strength & Yoga - meets Wednesdays 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in the Ballet Room.  Learn simple beginner Yoga poses (both on mats and standing) to improve posture alignment, muscle tone, flexibility and agility.

 

Shape Up & Work Out - meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the Fitness Center room.  Goal of this program is to improve the health of your heart & lungs and to keep your bones strong.  Weights are available for use during the class.

 

Sit Stretch & Groove - meets Mondays and Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM in the Fitness Center room.  Incorporates balance, stretching, walking and energetic exercise.  Participants can choose to exercise sitting in chairs if preferred.  A good class to start with if you haven't exercised in a while.

 

Tap Dancing - Enjoy learning dance steps and routines to music.  Dancing is great exercise and lots of fun.  No partners necessary.  Meets Thursdays in the auditorium 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Free.

 

Walking - Walk the Windsor Center River Trail with the Jolly Jaunters on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 9:00 AM.  Call the Senior Center for more details, 860-285-1992.  Free.

 

Water Fitness - beneficial exercises conducted in shallow water will help joint mobility, muscle strength and flexibility.  Classes are held every Monday and Wednesday from 7:30 PM to 8:30 PM at the Windsor High School indoor pool.  Water shoes are required.

  

Yoga  - Breathing techniques, yoga postures and relaxation techniques will be taught to enhance quality of life, increase flexibility, circulation, energy & stamina.  Meets Thursdays in the Ballet Room 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM.

 

Zumba Gold - dance based exercise program set to Latin & international rhythms.  Developed to benefit older active adults.  Meets Mondays in the Ballet Room 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM.
