Notice - Windsor Taxes Due July 1, 2010

The Tax Collector is reminding taxpayers that taxes on the Grand List of October 1, 2009 are due in full July 1, 2010 and payable by August 2, 2010. Unpaid taxes will be considered delinquent on August 3, 2010. On that date interest will be charged from the original due date of July 1, 2010. Interest is charged at a rate of 18% per year, with a minimum of $2.00, in accordance with the provisions of C.G.S. Sec. 12-146.

Tax bills are scheduled to be mailed on June 18, 2010. Failure to receive a tax bill does not invalidate the tax or any interest on it should it become delinquent. Taxpayers who have not received their tax bill should contact the office at 860-285-1810 to obtain a copy.

Motor vehicle bills are for cars registered as of Oct. 1, 2009, and cover Oct. 1 2009 through Sept. 30th of this year. If you have moved out of state, please pay your bill and provide a copy of your new registration to the Assessor's office, or call 860-285-1817, or fax the copy to 860-285-1820.

If you have moved out of town but still live in the state, the bill is still due. Please notify the town of your new address and also notify the state Department of Motor Vehicles’ registration office.

Cash, certified bank check, or money order will be required when paying past-due motor vehicle taxes. Personal checks will not be accepted if a DMV clearance is needed for motor vehicle registration. Taxpayers also now have the option of paying either online through the Town of Windsor website at http://www.townofwindsorct.com/tax/payonline/ or by calling 1-800-272-9829 using Jurisdiction Code 1771. PLEASE NOTE: CREDIT CARDS ARE NOT ACCEPTED AT THE TAX OFFICE. Payment of delinquent taxes must be paid directly to the Town of Windsor, Tax Office, 275 Broad St., Windsor, CT 06095. If anyone receives a tax bill that says, "Back Taxes Due", please contact the tax office for the total amount due.

Tax payment drop-off boxes are at the Windsor and Wilson libraries and the L.P. Wilson Community Center during the month of July. The drop-off box located in the center section of the Town Hall parking lot is available year-round.

Payments may be made by mail or in person at the Tax Collector's office, located on the first floor of the Town Hall. Office hours are Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. All payments should be accompanied by a bill. Taxpayers, who wish to receive a paid receipt, must return the entire bill with a stamped, self-addressed envelope along with their payment.
