Town Manager's Report - April 3rd, 2017

Public Works Operations Manager

I’m pleased to let the Council know that we have hired on a new Public Works Operation Manager, Mr. Ed Wagner, in anticipation of an upcoming retirement.  Ed begins his duties with the town this week. He has twenty years of experience in municipal public works. This experience includes a variety Department of Public Works positions, most recently as Director of Community Maintenance and Development for the Town of Sherborn, Massachusetts.  He held this position since 2009 and was responsible for the daily operations of the department including roadway, grounds, fleet, building maintenance; and the forestry and snow removal programs. Ed has also served the towns of Westborough, Swampscott, and Chelsea, Massachusetts. Earlier in his career, Ed worked for the Boston Water and Sewer Commission working his way up from Project Administrator to Field Service Manager during his six year tenure there.

Ed has a degree in civil engineering from Wentworth Institute of Technology.  He grew up in East Hartford and is excited about returning to Connecticut and being closer to family.

Prospect Hill Road

Bids have been received for the reconstruction of Prospect Hill Road between West Street and the vicinity of Bent Drive. The low bid came in below the engineer’s estimate. Bids are being evaluated. This project is funded through a State grant. Construction is expected to start later this spring.

Pigeon Hill Road at Lamberton

Road work began this week on Pigeon Hill Road in the vicinity of Lamberton Road. The work will involve a slight widening of the roadway for approximately 400’ west of the intersection to improve safety. Work should be completed by this week, depending on the weather.
