Highlights From The 5 Year Anniversary
On September 11, 2006 Windsor re-created the 9/11 Walk of Light event in commemoration of the 5-year anniversary of the tragic event. The luminary bags were decorated by Windsor High School and Sage Park Middle School students, St. Gabriel School students, Madina Academy, Windsor Discovery Center, Trinity United Methodist Christian School, Windsor Caring Connection clients and children from the Windsor Library and Recreation Department programs.
Once again the luminaries lined the sidewalks of the Windsor Town Green. Each bag was inscribed with the name of an individual who lost their life on that tragic day. Some of the luminary art was personalized as some high school students had researched the name they were assigned and decorated the luminary bag accordingly. As dusk approached, red, white and blue glow sticks were placed in the luminary bags.
Members of the Kiwanis Club of Windsor and Lions club worked together with other volunteers to clean-up the event at the end of the evening.
