Rainbow Reservoir Advisory

The Town of Windsor has been working with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) in response to a blue-green algae bloom in the Rainbow Reservoir.

  • Blue-green algae occurs naturally in lakes and ponds throughout Connecticut in the summer months and rapid growth occurs during periods of extreme heat.
  • Tainted water takes on a green, blue-green, or reddish-brown colored hue. Residents are advised to avoid contact and keep pets away.
  • Exposure to algae toxins can occur through direct contact, ingestion, inhalation, and exposure which can cause mild skin irritation and illness.
  • Nearby groundwater wells are not impacted by algae blooms.

If you have more questions, please contact the Windsor Health Department at 860-285-1823.
