Windsor Conservation Commission Sponsoring

E-Cycle Event on Saturday, September 18, 2021

On September 18, 2021 from 9am-noon, the Windsor Conservation Commission will be holding its annual FREE E-Cycle event in cooperation with TAKE II in the rear parking lot of the Windsor, CT Town Hall, 275 Broad Street from 9:00 AM to noon.  Residents are welcome to drop off their electronic devices such as computers, VCRs, radios, monitors, printers, cell phones, televisions, and small appliances at no cost. These programs were enacted in July of 2007 giving Connecticut residents the opportunity to properly recycle certain electronic devices. This is in keeping with the January 1, 2011 banning covered electron devices from being disposed of in the trash.

The Commission extends its appreciation to TAKE II for its recognized reputation as a leading e-cycle company and for working with towns and groups in the interests of proper electronics disposal.  Recycled materials are collectively referred to as electronic waste or “e-waste” and are one of the fastest growing portions of our waste stream.  As new electronic equipment enters the market these devices, computers in particular will increasingly become accumulated and stored. For every new product that is is sold to consumers, one or more becomes outdated intensifying waste nationally.

Careful disposal is critical and important because many electronic products contain hazardous parts. Reportedly, monitors and televisions can contain leaded glass and beryllium, mercury, cadmium, nickel, zinc, silver and gold also cadmium can be found in batteries and mercury can be present in relays and switches.   When it is not recycled, it will likely end up in waste-to-energy facility where most of our trash is disposed in the state. E-waste incineration is said to produce dioxin and contribute to heavy metal contamination in the atmosphere. Finally, proper recycling and disposal of e-waste can prevent exploitation of workers in the USA and lesser developed countries.

The Windsor Conservation and TAKE II welcome and encourage citizens to take advantage of this opportunity to lighten up your home and responsibly dispose of outdated or unused electronics.
