Joey Maffiolini: Aquatics Director
Joey began taking the role of as the aquatic director this summer. This past fall Joey met with Recreation staff to revamp the swim lessons to enhance the quality of swim lessons we offer. Joey spent countless hours creating an aquatics orientation power point. During staff training this spring Joey took two full days of training from his power point presentation he created emphasizing on content and how to teach lessons, both in a classroom and in the water. With the first week of lessons under our belt, they were excellent. He went around to all of the pools and witnessed firsthand some of the elements of the “How to Teach" seminar that was taught back in June. Some of those elements were concise lesson plans planned out to time intervals, safety topics, and an overall general boost in the guard’s confidence and ability to teach.
Joey also coordinated all assignments that are required for pool inspection. All three pools have successfully passed inspection that was conducted by the Health department.
Joey manages to successfully balance his job as an aquatic director with his studies at CCSU. He is majoring in Physical Education and he would like to become a gym teacher during the school year and continue to be aquatic director during the off season. In his spare time Joey likes to play ultimate Frisbee, Play in his band, watch the Buffalo Sabres.
