Karate for Kids

The Windsor School of Self Defense and Windsor Recreation and Leisure Services is offering martial arts training for children.  This program is ongoing.  Register monthly. $35.  860-285-1990.

Tai Chi for Adults

Hwa Yu Tai Chi is a low impact, complete movement-education system, and a unique long term health program deeply rooted in self-defense.  Kurt Eaton teaches Tai Chi that places emphasis on core development, improved balance, and reduced stress.  The program is held on Tuesdays and Thursdays every month at the L.P. Wilson Community Center in the Ballet room from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. $50.  860-798-0628 for more information.

Shad Derby Youth Fishing Derby

May 11: Children 12 and under are invited to Washington Park for our Youth Fishing Derby today from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM.  Bait and tackle will be provided but participants should bring their own fishing pole. Awards will be given out for the smallest fish, biggest and most fish caught.  Bring your family and friends and a have great fishing morning. Free. 860-285-1990.

May 29th

Fencing Classes

May 29th: The class is held at LP Wilson Community Center From May 29th through June 26th from 6:15 – 7:30pm.  The course will be taught by National and International Gold Medalist Mal-sun Marletto, who has over 25 years of personal competitive National and International fencing experience and over 20 years of coaching and teaching experience, establishing her own fencing club—the Farmington Valley Fencing Academy (FVFA)—in 2004. For safety reasons, classes are not appropriate for children with discipline issues and top effort will be expected of all participants.  $120 includes instruction and all fencing equipment rental: $130.00 for non-residents; ages 10+ and adults.  Please visit www.fvfa.com for additional information or call 860-285-1990 with other questions. Middle School Extravaganza

May 31st: Come to the Middle School Extravaganza for a night packed with fun for middle school teens.  Come enjoy the fun at the LP Wilson Community Center tonight from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.  There will be music, dancing, games, obstacle course, photo booth, video games, pizza, candy, soda, and new surprises every time!  $10.00 in advance or $15.00 at the door.  You can register online at townofwindsorct.com/recreation or in person at the LP Wilson Community Center.  (860) 285-1990.

CT Trails Day Hike

June 1st:  Connecticut Trails Day Hike. East Barber River Trail Hike from 10:00 a.m to 11:30 am. Come enjoy this beautiful, paved walking trail that winds its way down the scenic Connecticut River.   This peaceful walking trail is approximately 1 mile long and is the perfect walk for families of all ages.  Don't forget to bring Fido! Shake & Bake Basketball Camp

June 17th: If you are a youngster from 8 to 14 years old, join this session of Shake and Bake Basketball Camp. The camp, which meets from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM runs for 6 weeks starting Jun 17th and ending August 9th at the L.P. Wilson Community Center, will break down this exhilarating sport into FUNdamental skills that all athletes, no matter their skill level, need to succeed. Participants will receive a T-shirt. $145.00 per week. 860-285-1990.

Adult Swim Lessons

Adult Swim Lessons are designed especially for beginning adults wishing to overcome their fear of the water or those who want to improve swimming technique and ability.  Adult lessons are offered at Welch Pool on Saturday mornings from 11am-12pm through August 10th.  $65.00.  (860) 285-1990.

Splish Splash Special Needs Swim Lessons

Splish – Splash Special Needs Swim Lessons are available for people with developmental and/or cognitive impairments. The emphasis is on the development of swimming skills and increasing range of motion through a total body workout on an individual basis. With a 1:1 teacher-student ratio, this class will boost confidence and enhance the swimming experience. The lessons meet every Tuesday from 5:30 PM to 6 PM, 6 PM to 6:30 PM or 6:30 PM to 7 PM from October 2 through December 6 at the Windsor High School indoor pool and are taught by one of our certified lifeguards. Lessons are 30 minutes and provide one-on-one instruction. $65.00 per six-week session. Call us at 860-285-1990 for more information.
