Windsor’s Annual Bridge Builders Awards

The Windsor Human Relations Commission is seeking nominations for the 25th Annual Bridge-Builder Awards.

Windsor Bridge Builder Awards are presented to individuals and entities that foster greater trust, understanding, and solidarity in the community.  Nominees can include students, church members, neighbors, or local businesses that have worked toward greater understanding of differences in Windsor.  Anyone of any age may fill out a nomination form.

Forms are available online, at Town Hall, at the libraries, and at the L.P. Wilson community center. 

The deadline for nominations is Wednesday, March 31.

A virtual awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 6:30 p.m.

One Book One Windsor

The Windsor Human Relations Commission’s One Book One Windsor event which will take place virtually on March 21, 2021 from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. The two books to be discussed will be “Stamped, Racism, Antiracism, and You” by Jason Reynolds and Ibram Kendi and “How to be an Antiracist” by Ibram Kendi. Special Town Meeting – WHS HVAC Equipment Replacement

There is an in-person Special Town Meeting schedule for April 5th at 6:45pm to vote on an appropriation of $2,105,000 for the Windsor High School HVAC Equipment Replacement.  The town was awarded an incentive of approximately $500,000 resulting in a total cost to the town of approximately $1,605,000. Those in attendance will be asked to observe social distancing and other public health precautions.  

Health Department – Vaccination Update

As of March 8th CT DPH is reporting that a total of 6,598 Windsor residents have received their first dose of the vaccine.  This is represents approximately 23% of Windsor’s population. Approximately 60% of these individuals were over the age of 65.

To date the Windsor Health Department has held a total of 27 vaccination clinics.  14 have been held in Windsor while 13 have been held in South Windsor.  Our Health Department has administered a total of 3,911 vaccines.

On March 1st CT DPH had prioritized local health departments to host private clinics for all educational providers (local, private, and daycare).  To date they have vaccinated 1,198 educational workers.  678 in South Windsor and 520 in Windsor.   

Vaccine clinics for private schools (St. Gabriel’s, Medina Academy and Loomis Chaffee), and childcare providers will be held Tuesday through Thursday this week. 

The CVS located on Broad Street is now offering the COVID-19 vaccine, to schedule please visit CVS.com.  Staff has also made contact with the CVS on Windsor Avenue, Stop-N-Shop and Target to inquire when they will begin offering the vaccine.

Also, today the Governor announced that the State is accelerating the age-based rollout of the vaccine.

  • April 5 – (tentative) Open to persons 16 years of age and older
