The Future Wilson Park

Learn about the new park coming to the vacant land at 458 Windsor Ave

More Than Just a Park

Wilson Park is a transformative project set to breathe life into a long-vacant parcel, creating a multi-dimensional space at the gateway to the Wilson Neighborhood

Over the years, the Town diligently assembled a 5.68-acre Redevelopment Parcel, addressing flooding concerns and acquiring additional land to foster growth. Despite attempts to attract private development, the site remains vacant, lacking a sense of place.

Imagine this space transformed into a welcoming park, a vision shaped by the collective input of the community. Planned enhancements include a parking lot, trails, trees, landscaping, habitat improvements, public art, food truck parking, picnic patio, playgrounds, pavilion, amphitheater, and a great lawn. The possibilities for programming are vast, from performances and concerts to festivals, movie nights, and educational activities.

This is more than just a park; it’s an investment in the community’s well-being, offering spaces for recreation, relaxation, and cultural enrichment. The park is poised to become a central gathering point for residents of all ages, fostering community pride and drawing visitors from across town and beyond.

By transforming this key property into a public park, we aren’t just creating a recreational space; we are positively impacting the quality of life for everyone. The park will not only draw patrons to nearby businesses but also serve as a testament to the community’s commitment to creating a vibrant, inclusive, and beautiful environment for generations to come.

Community Unity and Inclusivity

The park isn’t just about green spaces and play structures – it’s a symbol of unity and inclusivity. From the beginning, we’ve prioritized resident input to ensure every voice is heard. This park is a reflection of our diverse community, designed by and for the people who call Windsor home.

Health and Well-being

Imagine a place where the sounds of laughter, the sight of families enjoying picnics, and the joy of children playing freely fill the air. The park is more than just a beautiful space; it’s an investment in the health and well-being of our residents. Studies consistently show that access to green spaces improves physical health, mental well-being, and strengthens social bonds.

Economic and Social Impact

The total cost of the project is $4,355,000 with $4,000,000 funded through CT’s Community Investment Grant and the remaining $355,000 funded through American Rescue Funds. The transformation of 458 Windsor Avenue into a Park isn’t just about recreation; it’s an investment in our local economy and social fabric. Parks act as catalysts for community growth, attracting businesses, creating jobs, and enhancing property values. Beyond economic impact, this park will serve as a central gathering place, fostering connections and friendships.

Cultural and Recreational Hub

Our vision for the park extends beyond greenery and playgrounds; it’s about creating a cultural and recreational hub for all of Windsor. Picture a space where community events, live performances, and cultural celebrations come to life. This vision is built on a space that goes beyond daily recreation – it’s a canvas for our shared experiences, a venue for creativity, and a cornerstone for building lasting memories in our community.
