Town Manager's Report - September 5th, 2017

Bradley International Airport Master Plan

There will be a public informational meeting for the update on the Bradley International Airport Master Plan on Tuesday, September 12th at 6:00 PM at the New England Air Museum (36 Perimeter Road, Windsor Locks). During the meeting, information on the overall study will be presented along with an opportunity for the public to ask questions and provide comments.


Neighborhood Community Block Party

The Police Department and Youth Services Bureau will be having a neighborhood community block party on the September 8th from 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Sharson Park. This is a rescheduled event as the original summer date was rained out.


Batchelder Road Railroad Overpass & Other Rail Crossings

Work continues on upgrading rail crossings and the Batchelder Road railroad bridge. Amtrak has provided the following schedule for their upcoming crossing work in Windsor for the next several weeks. 


East Barber Street and Meadow Road Crossings

  • 9/5 to 9/8:  one-way alternating traffic from 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
  • 9/18 to 9/29:  one-way alternating traffic from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.


Island Road

  • 9/8 at 6:00 PM to 9/11 at 7:00 PM: Island Road crossing will be closed to through traffic.
  • 9/12 to 9/20:  one-way alternating traffic from 8:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  


Batchelder Road will likely remain closed through October.  While work is occurring on Island Road crossing, the contractors will re-open Batchelder Road on those days.


Later this fall, Central Street crossing will be closed for improvements. No dates have been set.


11th Annual Tavern Trot Run & Walk

The 11th annual Tavern Trot Run and Walk will take place on Sunday, September 17th.  This is a 3.5 mile road and trail race through Windsor Center.


There will be altered traffic patterns along Central and Mechanic streets, Batchelder Road and Palisado Avenue from roughly 12:30 to 1:30 due to this event.


Freedom Trail run

This year’s Freedom Trail Run will take place on Saturday, September 16th beginning at 5:30 AM at the Archer Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church, 320 Hayden Station Road, and ending at the Riverside Cemetery on East Street. The run is approximately 3.9 miles long. A Freedom Trail t-shirt will be given to all runners and breakfast will be served at the church for participants after the run.  To sign up, call 860-688-2479.


35th Annual Northwest Park Country Fair

Northwest Park’s 35th annual country fair will be held on Saturday, September 16th from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Activities include hay rides, pony rides, silent auction, and games galore. Great food and refreshments will be available for purchase. Rounding out the day will be demonstrations from local organizations, students, boy scouts and Northwest Park staff. The popular CTChip (Connecticut Child Identification) program will also be available. Rain date is Sunday, September 17th from 12 noon to 4:00 PM. $3 kids or $4 adults. Northwest Park Maple Sugarhouse Update

The renovation and expansion of the Northwest Park Sugarhouse is underway.Foundation and floor slab are complete and framing of the addition is set to start.


The Friends of Northwest Park have operated the maple sugaring program for over 30 years and provide educational opportunities for more than 900 students and 1,400 park visitors annually. The “Friends” were awarded a grant from the Connecticut Department of Agriculture farm viability program for this project. The grant will be augmented by donations and fundraising efforts through the Friends of NWP.
