Clover Street Field Improvement Project

Clover Street School’s cricket field is set to undergo substantial improvements, thanks to a combination of federal and local funds totaling $1,695,000. The funding package, approved in March, includes $1,000,000 from American Rescue Funds and $695,000 from the General Fund Unassigned Balance.

The cricket field, a popular venue for both practice and competitive play from May through the fall, has faced challenges due to inadequate drainage and the formation of small sinkholes, posing safety risks for users. The field’s natural turf surfaces and underlying clay soils currently do not adequately drain, often rendering the field unplayable after rain.

To address these issues, the improvement project will focus on three key elements: field reconstruction, the creation of a new parking lot, and the replacement of an outdated multi-use restroom building. The field reconstruction will involve raising the field’s grade by an average of 1.5 feet to ensure proper drainage. This will be complemented by the installation of underdrains and necessary storm water improvements to enhance the field’s usability and safety.

Additionally, a new access drive and parking lot with approximately 45 spaces will be constructed to improve accessibility for players and spectators alike. The existing wooden outbuilding, which is over 40 years old and in poor to fair condition, will be replaced with a prefabricated concrete building. This new facility will include two ADA accessible restrooms, a small concession area, and a versatile 12’ x 12’ multi-use room, ensuring the facilities meet current standards and serve the community’s needs effectively.
