Social Services

The Department of Social Services can assist families during difficult times. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and caring. All contacts are confidential.

Social Services provides :

  • Casework and Support
  • Information and Referral
  • Food Bank, Diaper Closet, Mobile Foodshare, Groceries to Go, Weekend Wheels Backpack program
  • SNAP (Food Stamps) enrollment and renewal by appointment only
  • Medicare options counseling
  • Energy and Utility Assistance
  • Support groups for Diabetics, Share Groups and monthly informational events
  • Special holiday programs

Windsor Social Services coordinates a wide variety of volunteer opportunities and many of our programs are supported by Windsor C.A.R.E.S. and Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.

CLOSED IN NOVEMBER
The Social Services office and Windsor Food Bank will be closed the following days in November:
Monday, November 12th Veteran’s Day
Thursday, November 22nd Thanksgiving Day
Friday, November 23rd Day after Thanksgiving

The Windsor Food Bank will be closed for regular distributions on Thursday, November 15th for our annual turkey distribution event.

Caseworker at the Library
Maggie Goodman, one of our caseworkers, will be available every Tuesday from 1:00 – 3:00 PM on the lower level of the Windsor Public Library main branch. Maggie will be happy to answer questions and provide resource information to people in need of assistance.

2018 Turkey Distribution
Food bank clients who preregistered for a turkey can pick them up on Thursday, November 15th from 10am – noon or 5 pm – 6 pm at the Windsor Food Bank.  Please note that the food bank will be closed that day for regular distributions.
NO walkins will be accepted.  Preregistration was required.

Diabetic Support Group
The next Diabetic Support Group will meet on Tuesday, November 20th at 11:00 am at the LP Wilson Community Center.  Click Here to view event flier for more information.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Appointments
Come talk to Rob DeHostos and find out if Anthem plans are right for you. There is no obligation to enroll.  Individual appointments will be taken on November 26th between 11 am and 1 pm at the Windsor Senior Center Nurse’s office.  Call Susan Nunes at 860-285-1839.

Weekend Wheels Backpack Program
The Weekend Wheels backpack program will be taking registrations beginning in August for the 2018-2019 school year.  This program distributes a food filled backpack to qualifying elementary school children each week throughout the school year for the purpose of providing nutritional assistance through the weekend.
