The Department of Social Services can assist families during difficult times. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and caring. All contacts are confidential.

Social Services provides :

  • Casework and Support
  • Information and Referral
  • Food Bank, Diaper Closet, Mobile Foodshare, Groceries to Go, Weekend Wheels Backpack program
  • SNAP (Food Stamps) enrollment and renewal by appointment only
  • Medicare options counseling
  • Energy and Utility Assistance
  • Special informational events throughout the year
  • Special holiday programs

Windsor Social Services coordinates a wide variety of volunteer opportunities and many of our programs are supported by Windsor C.A.R.E.S. and Windsor Food and Fuel Bank.

RENTER’S REBATE PROGRAM 
The Renter’s Rebate program will be taking applications from April 1st thru October 1st.
State law provides a reimbursement program for Connecticut renters who are elderly or totally disabled, and whose incomes doe not exceed certain limits. Please visit the Renter’s Rebate page on our website to get more information. 

GREATER HARTFORD LEGAL AID COMING TO LP WILSON
Greater Hartford Legal Aid will be coming to Social Services the 1st Friday of every month with appointments offered between 9-11AM. GHLA is a not-for-profit law firm providing FREE high-quality legal services to address the most critical needs of the low-income people.  FREE statewide services include but aren’t limited to matters relating to family, housing, children, employment, government, benefits, seniors and immigration.

HARTFORD AMERICAN JOB CENTER COMING SOON TO LP WILSON
Hartford American Job Centers help workers find jobs – for FREE! They can help you learn which jobs and careers are right for you, write great cover letters, create a powerful resume that gets you interviews, and conduct effective job searches. Whether you’re looking for your first job or to level up your career. AJC will be taking appointments in the food bank office the 3rd Thursday of each month. Call 860-406-3374 to schedule an appointment. 

FREE YOGA CLASS FOR VETERANS AND THEIR CAREGIVERS
This FREE monthly yoga class let by Veteran Yoga Mike is a rejuvenating yoga class tailored specifically for US military service members, veterans and their caregivers.  Click Here to view class flier.

LEAN ON ME-A Caseworker At The Library Program
Social Services is pleased to announce LEAN ON ME- a new caseworker appointment program the first Tuesday afternoon of each month at the Windsor Main Library. Call 860-285-1839 to schedule an appointment. The staff is also available at our main office at the LP Wilson Community Center for scheduled appointments.  Click Here to view program flier.

ENERGY ASSISTANCE 
Do you know there are FREE programs available to help you pay your utility bills and to heat your home?  Please give us a call for any energy questions you have throughout the year.

MOBILE FOODSHARE
This Foodshare program comes to Windsor to provide fresh fruits and vegetables to individuals and families in need of food assistance.
The Windsor distribution location is at the HOPEWELL BAPTIST CHURCH, 280 Windsor Avenue.  Distributions will be every other Wednesday afternoon from 2:00-2:30 pm.  Click Here to view distribution dates.

Weekend Wheels Backpack Program – A Student Food Program
The Weekend Wheels backpack program provides a weekly distribution of food to qualifying school children each week throughout the school year for the purpose of providing nutritional assistance through the weekend.

Since the COVID-19 PANDEMIC CRISIS, this program has been making distributions thru home delivery.

WIC- WOMEN, INFANTS & CHILDREN IN WINDSOR
Hartford WIC assists women with babies to purchase necessary nutritional food items and formula. Eligibility is based on household size, income and assets. WIC is now offering appointments at the LP Wilson Community Center, AP1 Room, the 1st Tuesday of each month scheduled between 9AM-1PM. To schedule an appointment, call the WIC main line at 860-757-4780. In additional to the support that is being provided by Hartford WIC, the Social Service staff will continue to offer guidance to residents requiring extra support with food and basic needs for their families. Social Services staff will further continue to offer basic needs such as diapers, wipes, and food items through the Windsor Food & Fuel Bank.
