Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution

Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution

The Connecticut Daughters of the American Revolution have been in operation since 1917. Their mission and purpose is to maintain and preserve historical sites and structures, and to engage the public in history through outreach and events. The organization has been operating out of the historic Matthies Hall on Palisado Avenue, but the building is in need of extensive repairs, including electrical upgrades, energy efficiency additions, and renovations to keep the basement dry. Because COVID-19 prevented the DAR from hosting any events, they lost at least $23,000 worth of event bookings, and were unable to raise the funds needed to pay for the hall’s much-needed renovations. With the $10,000 they gained through the ARF Small Business and Nonprofit Grant, the DAR will be able to fund some of these renovations, maintaining the building so that its history can be preserved and the organization can continue to host events there.
