In partnership with Dr. Keon Berry’s Advantage Academy, The Windsor Senior Senior Center presents:

An intergenerational series to develop relationships, create conversation, and enhance intellect, all done across a chess board. Chess is a wildly popular activity that friends of all ages can enjoy and embrace! Open to all ages at the L.P. Wilson Community Center, 599 Matianuck Avenue, Windsor. Free!

Friday, September 9th 5:00pm – 7:30pm

Bereavement Support Group

If you are experiencing grief and would like to explore support options, we would like to invite you to attend our NEW twice monthly Bereavement Support Group with Laura Perednia, LCSW and Robert Havens, Certified Grief Counselor. Meetings will be 11:00 am – 12:00 pm on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month in the Senior Center.

You may also reach out to Sarah at Carmon Funeral Homes (their Avon office) at 860-673-8610. They host an evening “Begin Again” self-help support group in Windsor. Please call for details, location, and meet times.

Monthly Book Club

In January, we will welcome a monthly Book Club. Led by avid reader, and book enthusiast Martha O’Donnell. The group will meet for the first time on Thursday, January 13th at 10:30 am here at the Windsor Senior Center.

The first book to be discussed is “the Nightingale” by Kristin Hannah. The book may be ordered off of Amazon in either hard cover (used $14) or paperback ($9) or Kindle or Audible. The Windsor Library carries several copies as well.

Chess Club

Whether you’re a grandmaster or a beginner, stop by our chess club and challenge yourself! We meet on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month at 11:00 AM in the senior center for some healthy competition as you enjoy one of the world’s oldest games. Chess is great to keep your mind sharp, as well as enjoy the company of friends. Come solo or with a partner.

The Windsor Senior Center offers many enrichment programs and clubs which engage the seniors of our community. Club Leaders are volunteers who help make these programs run successfully. All clubs are open to new members. Please see the current issue of the Windsor Seniors’ Newsletter for more details about each enrichment program and club and the dates that they meet. Contact us at 860-285-1992 if you have an idea for a new club, or would like to start or lead a club that would be of interest to anyone age 55 and over. We are happy to accommodate new clubs and ideas!

Bingo: Daytime games are played every Monday and Friday from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. This is a popular activity but there’s always room for one more at the Senior Center. Arrive by 12:45 to purchase your game cards. Evening Bingo parties are planned every third Wednesday of the month beginning at 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM.

Bowling:  The Windsor Sportsters’ bowling league meets every Monday from 10:00 AM to noon at the Bradley Bowl. Come enjoy lots of good fellowship and fun.  This is a non-competitive, co-ed league which you can join anytime. No bowling skills are required. $11.00 for three strings. 860-688-6119 for information.

Coffee Talk: Enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea as you discuss current events with other seniors every Monday, Tuesday, and Friday mornings in the Senior Center café from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. This is an informal discussion group, sometimes with guest speakers, and is sure to get your day started right. Free.

Crafty Fingers: If you like to sew, knit or crochet, or have a special craft you would like to teach others, then Crafty Fingers is for you. Join this group every Friday morning in the Senior Center craft room from 9:30 AM to noon. All skills and interests welcome. Just stop by or call 860-285-1992 for more information. Free.

Cribbage: Easy to learn and fun to play, this centuries-old popular card game is played every Wednesday at 9:00 AM. Come early if you need some instruction. New players can join anytime. Free.

French Club: (RETURNING SOON) “Parlons Francais!” A club for those who want to brush up on their conversational French. Meetings are held the first and third Fridays of each month from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Free.

Golden Fellowship Club: (RETURNING SOON) meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:00 PM. We have a short meeting followed by entertainment, refreshments and social time. (No meetings in July and August.) We also have bus trips to shows with lunch or places of interest. Informational flyers for our trips are located in the Windsor Senior Center. Everyone age 55+ is welcome to join. $5.00 per year. You don’t have to be a member to go on our trips. 860-758-7378 or 860-335-7069 for further information.

MahJongg: Join this great group and start a new hobby. Beginners are always welcome. Games are played every Monday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:30 PM in All Purpose Room 1. Free.

Movie of the Month: Join us in the Senior Center Lounge for the Movie of the Month from 12:45 PM to 3:00 PM every third Tuesday of the month.  Transportation available. Free. 860-285-1992 for more information and to sign up each month.

Quilting: Join the First Towne Quilters and share some friendship and stitching. Bring your own projects or stop by to get ideas and help with a new project. We meet the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Join us anytime. Free.

The ROLEO Club: (RETURNING SOON) (Retired Old Ladies Eating Out) meets on the third Friday each month at Friendly’s on Route 75 in Windsor Locks from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM. The club offers women age 55 or older an opportunity to meet and chat about a variety of topics. Newcomers are welcome to join at any time. Cost is determined by what you order.

The ROMEO Gathering: (RETURNING SOON)(Retired Old Men Eating Out) meets at Bart’s Restaurant, 55 Palisado Avenue, Windsor, from 8:00 AM to 9:00 AM on the second Friday of each month. This breakfast club gives a chance to men age 55 or older to meet and enjoy each other’s company. This is a welcoming group. Cost is determined by what you order.

Setback: The card players all gather in the Senior Center every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 2:45 PM to play setback. A great way to meet new people or catch up with old friends. New participants always welcome. Instruction provided if needed. Free.

WOW (Watch Our Weight): (RETURNING SOON) Meets every Wednesday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Senior Center. Gain support and information to help take off weight and keep it off while enjoying some new friendships. New members always welcome. 860-688-2515.
