Youth Engagement Officer

My name is Officer David Sanchez. I have always had an interest in working with the youth since my days at the University of Connecticut, where I participated in several mentorship programs in Hartford. Since becoming a police officer, I was able to carry on this passion into law enforcement.  I have been an active member of the North Central Emergency Services Team (SWAT) since 2012. I am a firearm, and defensive tactics instructor. Most importantly, I am a father to two children in the Windsor School District. I am honored to be the first police officer chosen to implement the newly created position of Youth Engagement Officer. I believe this will be an essential step towards our Community Policing efforts.

The Youth Engagement Officer is a position created with a focus on the vital role of working to build relationships with the community, with a direct emphasis on the youth in town. My primary responsibility as the Youth Engagement Officer is to work with students and faculty at the elementary and middle schools, and to communicate and share information with school staff to better serve the children and families of Windsor. As the Youth Engagement Officer I work with the Town of Windsor’s Parks and Recreation department with event planning and program implementation to increase positive police interactions with the youth that will have a lasting positive effect on their perception of law enforcement.

This is has been the most satisfying part of my career. Every day I come to work, I get to interact with the future of this town and country. With such recent negative perceptions of law enforcement, it is more important now than ever to make good relationships work and last between police and the community.
